๐Ÿ’ป Best on a computer

Grid Town is a mouse & keyboard builder โ€” you pan, zoom, and place power plants across a map, which needs a pointer and a bigger screen. Open this link on a laptop or desktop for the full experience.

A cel-shaded town of houses beside a winding river

โšก Keep the Town Powered

A growing town needs electricity. Build power near the houses to light them up: a lit home pays you for its power every second โ€” a home in the dark pays nothing. Keeping the lights on as the town spreads is how you earn and afford to grow.

Placing a solar source near homes; green lines show the houses it reaches

๐Ÿ”จ Build Power Sources

By default your cursor just explores โ€” hover a house, plant, or line to inspect it. To build, pick a power source: press its number key 1โ€“5 or click it in the build guide on the right, then click a tile near homes to place it (each source only powers houses in range โ€” the green lines). You can build on open ground only โ€” water, houses, and roads are blocked. Press Esc or right-click to stop building and go back to exploring.

The production-vs-demand graph and the daily supply forecast

๐Ÿ“Š Watch the Dashboard

The bottom strip is your control room. Keep your colored supply above the white demand line โ€” any red gap means homes go dark. The forecast shows solar fading into the evening peak โ€” and wind sags then too โ€” so plan ahead with batteries or gas. And demand keeps rising as the town grows and homes electrify, so a grid that's enough today won't be enough next week โ€” keep expanding.

A town crowded with gas plants, their flares glowing

๐Ÿญ Two Ways to Lose

Pollution: gas is cheap and runs anytime, but it pollutes โ€” lean on it too hard and emissions hit the cap โ†’ game over. Bankruptcy: every plant costs upkeep for as long as it stands, so an overbuilt grid bleeds cash even when idle โ€” let your balance sit in the red and it's over too. Grow fast, but don't choke the town or overbuild.

A clean town at night, every home's windows glowing โ€” fully powered

๐Ÿ† How to Win: Sustainable City

Run a real town entirely on clean power. You reach a โญ Sustainable City when you hold all of this for 90 seconds:

  • 50 homes powered (fewer on Relaxed)
  • grid kept ~fully supplied โ€” no brownouts
  • no gas burning โ€” sun, wind, nuclear & batteries only

Choose your pace

You can balance supply, demand, budget, and pollution at your own speed. Pick one to begin:

๐Ÿ”Š Best with sound on โ€” lo-fi music plays as you build. Mute anytime with the ๐Ÿ”Š button up top.

Game Over

โญ Sustainable City!

You're powering a whole town on clean energy โ€” no gas, no brownouts. That's the win. ๐ŸŽ‰
